ChildSavers offers children’s mental health services in Richmond, VA. Our licensed therapists incorporate art therapy, play therapy, and sand tray therapy with resilience and strengths-based treatment, customized to fit your child’s needs. We accept Medicaid and private insurance.
Signs A Child May Need Therapy
One stressful event can produce significant distress in children and young adults. Trauma and stress can affect our behaviors, emotions, bodies, and all areas of life. We specialize in trauma treatment and focus on resilience and strengths-based practices through art and play therapy.
Your child may need therapy if they are exhibiting the following behaviors:
- Changes with sleep or eating
- Sad or depressed mood
- Crying spells
- Hyperactivity/impulsivity
- Physical aggression
- Verbal aggression
- Difficulty expressing anger
- Destruction of property
- Running away*
- Exposure to violence (family, interpersonal, community-based)*
- Thoughts of hurting others*
- Thoughts of hurting oneself*
- Fire–setting*
- Substance abuse
- Sexualized behaviors deemed harmful or not age-appropriate*
*These may be signs of immediate, emergency therapeutic needs. In this case, call our Immediate Response Helpline for immediate intervention.
How to Get Started
To begin, fill out our inquiry form. Once it is submitted, our case coordinator will be in contact to finish the process. Then we’ll call to schedule the first appointment, where we’ll create a custom treatment plan together based on your child’s needs.
