Chief Executive Officer’s Message

On May 1, 2008, we formally opened our new center for children’s mental health and healthy development to the public. This was the exciting conclusion of a journey that began in 2002 when a major donor bought the former WRVA Radio Station and offered it to us as a much-needed facility.
Mark Hierholzer

This building, a signature (and now historic) structure designed by world-renowned architect Phillip Johnson, sits atop Church Hill with a panoramic view of the City of Richmond.  It can be seen from all over downtown with its 80-foot-high tower.

Lou Dean, a popular and well-known radio host who worked in this building for 30 years, put it best when, during our groundbreaking ceremony in 2004 he said, “this building, which for 30 years sent out news and information essential to our community, will now be a source of information and support for families and a beacon of hope and healing for children.  How appropriate.” Thank you, Lou.

This new state-of-the-art child mental health center is equipped with specially created spaces for the training of early childhood educators and child care providers, a signature play therapy suite, and an interior design that both weclomes and celebrates children and childhood.

I invite you to join us as a ChildSaver.  We have an ongoing program of informational lunches and tours.  Call us to make a reservation at 644-9590, extension 3007.

And please consider visiting our donor page.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Hierholzer
CEO
